Summary

Section 1 names the legislation the Customs Act, 1962, extends it to the whole of India and, unless the Act provides otherwise, to offences or contraventions committed outside India by any person. It authorises the Central Government to appoint the commencement date by Gazette notification; the Act came into force on 1 February 1963.
